Belle histoire d'hadrien avec prince
I'm not a fan of doing this, but since everyone is sharing their Prince story, here is mine:
" Summer 2010, Prince was looking for a new band from what my buddy Frederic Yonnet , amazing harmonica player who at this point has been playing with him for a little while, told me. One night in that summer I 'm performing in trio at " le caveau des oubliettes" in Paris, a club where I litterally had my first jams ever for the story. So we re on break getting a little fresh air, and there arrives Fred, whom I had just talked to on the phone a couple days ago, and I m like " arent you supposed to be on tour with P' ? Fred says " well that's whenever he calls.! Anyways do you know a very good jam around here?" Me " well, come downstairs we re having a pretty nice one.!" Fred" ok, back in 10 mins" .
We start the second set and in the middle of the first song... Prince pops up.. Lol, Sheila E with him and a couple other people.
I'm like " O-kay..! Nice one Fred.!" Anyways I keep my cool, we keep playing, Fred sat in a bit, Prince is having a bottle of red with his crew and takes off 25 mins later, and nods at me with that "Proud flamboyant Prince face" on his way out 😊.
2 and a half weeks later, I m being flown out to Minneapolis for a " Jam" at Paisley Park 😳❗️
I get to the hotel at like 9 am, sit there for the rest of the day and then the next day was " the day". Someone picked me up and there I am in Paisley Park 5 mins later, Prince ( in yin and yang pajamas) opening the huge sliding gate from what seemed to be a pretty large venue, with a stage and a purple piano on it. John Blackwell is there too, and so we start jamming in trio on "cissy strut" I believe.
P' is on organ. It's going well, then we keep playing, a few joints that he sent me earlier for me to learn, some blues, " wana be your lover", segments to " head" " sign O the times" etc.. P' would alternate between synth, organ, guitar, sometimes walking around the place and listening, and really seemingly getting into it..! Apparently enjoying some of the stuff I would play.
After about an hour of jamming we stopped and he's being real warm and compliments me and mentions wanting to do some kind of trio with John on drums and I. Then we hang an extra 30 mins talking about other stuff and then I left, went back to Paris the next day and that was it.. On a cloud for the next 2 weeks after that..😊
That trio never happened and somehow, I already would think to myself it'd be to good to be true but I didnt care. That day to me was huge and crazy and actually "enough". And 2 months later, I was moving to LA.
The Prince I met was just a very nice, easy going, down to earth guy and a huge musician, listening the whole time, comping just perfectly, proposing etc.. But most of it, he was obviously all MUSIC, wanting to play, excited like a kid, living and breathing music.
Thank you for the opportunity Purple Genius, RIP, you are and will be terribly missed. Thank you Fred Yonnet for making it happen.
